In today’s world, it seems like every other person is a self-proclaimed healer, shaman, or spiritual guide. The promise of quick fixes, miracle cures, and instant enlightenment is everywhere, especially in places like the spiritual heart of Bali: Ubud. Millions of people flock to this tiny town seeking healing and meaning in life, drawn by its reputation as a hub for spiritual growth and transformation.
But beneath the surface of this spiritual paradise, I’ve discovered a hard truth: not everyone who claims to be a healer has your best interests at heart. This may sound like an unpopular opinion but there is lot’s of spiritual superficiality going on.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed the rise of spiritual communities that, rather than empowering individuals, seem to thrive on insecurity and dependency. I’ve sat in circles where, instead of leaving with clarity and strength, women walked away feeling more disempowered and confused. It was disturbing to see these spaces, meant to uplift and nurture, actually feeding off the very fears and doubts they were supposed to heal.
Ubud, for example, can sometimes feel like a Spiritual New Age circus. Yes, it’s a place of deep transformation and incredible growth, but it’s also taught me a crucial lesson in discernment.
And let’s not forget the quirky characters and rituals that color this vibrant scene. From the Kirtan playboy to the butterfly guy who’s all about ‘pollinating’ the ladies but can’t commit, to the Moon Priestess who seems a bit out of touch with reality, and the cacao master who doesn’t even know the origin or true indigenous tradition behind the cacao he serves.
Ubud’s spiritual landscape is filled with entertaining archetypes. Add to that the awkward, 10-minute forced hugs that seem to be a thing in some circles, and you’ve got a spiritual circus that’s as amusing, awkward as it is eye-opening.
I don’t want to sound too judgmental, Jessie, but f*ck, I never felt like I truly belonged in this scene. And I have tons of personal experiences that made me want to totally unplug from the bullshit. And I could never really put it all into words until now.
It’s easy to get caught up in the hype, but true growth requires more than attending the latest spiritual trend or following the newest influencer guru. – or trying to fit in..

Why Healing can’t be handed to you on a silver platter
Here’s the real talk: I don’t believe that true healing can be handed to you by someone else. Healing is not something that can be done for you—it’s a deeply personal journey that requires your active participation. While guidance, support, and tools can be incredibly valuable, the real work happens within you. It’s about facing your own challenges, understanding your patterns, and making the necessary shifts that lead to real transformation.
When you rely solely on someone else to ‘heal’ you, you risk giving away your power. Real healing comes from embracing your own strength, listening to your intuition, and taking aligned action. It’s about reclaiming your autonomy and trusting that you have the wisdom within to navigate your own path to well-being.

Lessons in Discernment
My experiences in spiritual communities have shown me exactly how I don’t want to facilitate women’s circles. I’m committed to creating spaces where women feel genuinely seen, heard, and empowered.
Spaces where you leave feeling stronger, more connected to your inner wisdom, and ready to take on the world—not more confused or dependent on someone else’s version of truth.
Discernment is key. Be mindful of who you allow into your spiritual journey. Not every self-proclaimed healer or spiritual guide has the depth or integrity to truly support your growth. True transformation happens in environments that encourage self-awareness, not in spaces that thrive on uncertainty and dependence.

Reclaiming Your Power
At the end of the day, we each hold the key to our own well-being. Others may show us the path, but we must walk it ourselves. Real empowerment comes from within, and the most profound healing happens when we reclaim our power and trust our own inner voice.
So, here’s my message to you: Be discerning. Be mindful. And most importantly, be empowered. Your healing journey is yours and yours alone. Trust that you have everything you need within you to create the transformation you seek.
